The Welding and Pressure Gas Equipment Association is realigning itself and joining the VDMA Industrial Valves Division – for greater visibility, stronger networks and more effective representation of interests in a changing environment.

Frankfurt, July 1, 2025 – The welding and pressure gas equipment industry is undergoing radical change – and the VDMA is proactively addressing this development: In the face of growing European regulation, technological change and changing markets, the member companies of the VDMA Welding and Pressure Gas Equipment Association are joining the Industrial Valves Division in VDMA Valves – a strategic move to increase clout and visibility.

Realignment in response to profound change
The increasing complexity of EU regulations – from requirements for materials and sustainability criteria to the Digital Product Passport – requires stronger representation of interests. By joining forces, the two organizations are now pooling their expertise, speaking with a united voice and making their voices heard by politicians, the public and relevant stakeholders.

Both sides share a number of common issues – including regulatory requirements for materials, environmental aspects such as PFAS and lead, technological innovations and changes in the product portfolios of member companies.

“The technological upheaval does not stop at our association,” emphasizes Gerd Weissenfels, Managing Partner of IBEDA and Chairman of the VDMA Welding and Pressure Gas Equipment Association. “That’s why we have deliberately chosen to take this step in order to offer our members the greatest possible added value under changing conditions.”

Stronger voice – expanded range
The aim of the merger is to bundle forces, strengthen networks and represent the interests of members in an even more targeted and effective manner under a common umbrella in future. In addition to proven services such as market statistics and specialist committee work, member companies will benefit from a larger community, an expanded service portfolio and bundled consulting expertise.

“The Industrial Valves Division warmly welcomes the new members,” says Axel Weidner, Partner at Mankenberg GmbH and Chairman of the VDMA Valves Association. “By pooling our expertise, we are creating an even more powerful network that can address technological, regulatory and strategic challenges more efficiently.”

Formal implementation decided
The integration is based on a resolution passed by the extraordinary General Meeting and the Executive Board. With the formal dissolution of the Welding and Pressure Gas Equipment Association, the organizational integration into the Valves Association will take place.

“Our task is to act with foresight and develop structures in such a way that they continue to meet the needs of companies in the future,” explains Dr. Laura Dorfer, Managing Director of both VDMA trade associations. “Integration strengthens our work across the board without losing our technical depth – on the contrary: it opens up new technical perspectives and creates real added value for our members.”

Actively shaping the future
The decision marks a clear commitment to actively shaping change. The VDMA is not just reacting but moving forward – with a clear focus on the needs of companies, a strengthened representation of interests and the goal of shaping the future together.
