Mumbai, 8th September 2025 – Lilavati Hospital has emerged as one of the first hospitals in the country to successfully perform an Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS)-guided Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure using the Edwards Sapien III Resilia valve.
The landmark procedure was conducted on a 77-year-old patient from Surat suffering from severe aortic stenosis, who was deemed unfit for open-heart surgery due to age, prior heart surgeries, multiple stents, and other complications.
The Procedure
- Led by Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao and team, the procedure was performed through a minimally invasive approachfrom the patient’s right groin.
- IVUS technology was used to evaluate the diseased aortic valve in real time, ensure accurate placement, and optimize the expansion of the newly implanted Resilia valve.
- This approach significantly reduced surgical risks while enabling precise deployment and enhanced long-term patient outcomes.
Key Benefits of Edwards Sapien III Resilia Valve & IVUS-Guided TAVR
- Longer durability – Preclinical studies demonstrate enhanced valve longevity with Resilia tissue.
- Larger valve area – Provides superior blood flow, reducing heart pressure and improving function.
- Optimized outcomes – IVUS allows real-time visualization for safe and maximum expansion.
- Minimally invasive – Groin-based access avoids open surgery, enabling faster recovery and immediate patient responsiveness.
