Würzburg, February 14, 2024 – va-Q-tec, a leader in thermal energy efficiency and temperature-controlled supply chains, is proud to unveil its latest innovation – the “Thermal Coat.” This cutting-edge solution, featuring va-Q-gel technology, harnesses the power of phase change materials (PCM) for unparalleled temperature integrity in pharmaceutical air and sea freight transportation.
The Thermal Coat addresses critical challenges in the transportation of temperature-sensitive goods, providing a direct and space-saving coating using the revolutionary va-Q-gel. Composed of gelled PCM, this leak-proof technology can be pre-conditioned for temperature ranges of +2 °C to +8 °C or +15 °C to +25 °C, eliminating the need for external energy supply. With an outstanding performance of up to 24 hours, the Thermal Coat surpasses traditional solutions, ensuring enhanced autonomous performance and buffer times during transportation, thereby elevating the safety of the transported goods.
Designed for air and sea freight, especially in the transport of pharmaceuticals, generics, vaccines, and bio-pharmaceutical products, the va-Q-tec solution sets a new standard. In air freight, it outperforms conventional Thermal Covers by providing a qualified buffer time of 7 hours for extreme ambient temperatures and direct sunlight on the tarmac. The gelled PCM eliminates the need for liquid substances, making it lightweight and leak-proof.
In temperature-controlled sea freight containers (reefers), the Thermal Coat offers an exceptional temperature integrity of 24 hours, even in the absence of an active cooling unit or energy supply during loading or unloading. This minimizes the risk of temperature deviations and potential damage to sensitive goods. During power failures, the solution triples the autonomous temperature integrity of sea freight reefers.
The Thermal Coat not only enhances safety but also streamlines logistics. It allows for pallet loading up to 50% faster than comparable solutions, saving 30% of space per pallet in sea and air freight. The adjustable height of the reusable solution, coupled with clipping technology strapping the PCM directly around the goods, ensures stability and flexibility. Currently available for +5 °C and +20 °C transports, the Thermal Coat sets a new benchmark in pharmaceutical freight.
Fabian Eschenbach, Global Head of TempChain at va-Q-tec, stated, “With the Thermal Coat, we are expanding our product portfolio to include sea freight for the first time. Our partners now have access to a solution that not only triples the time buffer during power failures but also significantly enhances product safety for extended journeys by sea.”
The Thermal Coat will make its debut at air cargo India from 14 to 16 February, showcasing va-Q-tec’s commitment to advancing temperature-controlled logistics.
